Modester Lukosya

Job Title: CEO

Company: BRAMO Tech Engineering Company Limited
Country: Tanzania

What exactly do you do in your current job?
We supply and install Bio-digesters (Biogas plants ) that convert organic waste and agricultural residues into clean energy (biogas), a gas which can be used for cooking and lighting.

Can you tell us about how you got started working in energy?
I studied Mechanical Engineering at University. After completing my studies, I worked as an installation and maintenance engineer. I spent more than six years installing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) systems for hotels, restaurants, industries and institutions. This experience helped me become an innovator in affordable and clean energy technology, particularly biogas systems, which can be used for households, farmers and institutions.

What do you love about working in the sustainable energy sector?
Women, girls and children are affected significantly by using firewood and charcoal for cooking. They spend time on finding firewood as well as cooking, but they are not involved in community decision-making and other productive activities. Through our solution of clean cooking technology (using biogas), we can help save time for women and girls. This gives them a chance to participate more in their community’s decision-making. I love working in this sustainable energy sector because I am helping women and girls in both economic terms as well as their health.
